With so many website platforms to choose from, it can be hard to choose the best fit for your brand! I get a lot of inquiries in my inbox wanting a Wix website, but due to my past experiences with them, it’s not a platform I work with anymore. But it all comes down to which platform suits your goals & wants, and the platform you enjoy using. It’s great that you’re researching on website platforms, as this is something you’ll be constantly using and updating every month!
If you’ve been debating between Wix vs Showit, this post is for you! They are similar, but their differences definitely set them apart. I’ve already written other platform showdowns such as Showit vs Squarespace, and Showit vs WordPress in case you’re debating between others.
Remember that it’s not set in stone! If you decide on a platform that you end up not loving so much or doesn’t work for you as your business grows, you can move your website over at anytime (well, redesign).
This is my favourite website platform hands-down. Nothing compares, and I’ve used all website platforms you can think of – I always come back to my true love, Showit. My clients who have switched over from Wix – have regretted not switching over sooner!
They’ve taken over the design industry and are now being used by highly recognized online businesses worldwide. Even though their target audience used to be mainly photographers (which is why you might’ve not heard of them a lot in the past), so many different types of businesses have started to use them. They’ve evolved into a beautiful platform that works for almost all creative & service-based businesses. It also integrates with WordPress blogging, so you still get the amazing power & SEO capabilities of WordPress, but the design flexibility for your layout within Showit.
I used to work with Wix back when I first became a designer! I was hired as a freelancer by a company to design their client’s websites and insisted we stay on the platform. This partnership didn’t last long… it was very hard to create the design the way I wanted to, and complicated to get in touch with anyone at Wix for a simple question.
But I must say, Wix has improved over the years and have started to listen to their audience! There’s still lots of improvements needed, but I can’t say it’s the same as it used to be. My recommendation is that if you are a new business owner who is wanting to publish your first website & are not ready to invest in a custom design/template just yet, feel free to try it out.
I wanted to dive in a bit on customer support, as this is an important factor when choosing your website platform. Their customer support is the BIGGEST reason on why I can’t stand behind Wix or use them as a platform, because I want my clients to feel like they have help whenever they need it. If your website crashes, you want support. If you have a question, you should be able to ask it easily!
In the year of using Wix, it was extremely hard to contact anyone and it was extremely frustrating. Showit, I hear back within hours! Not only does Showit have a live chat where you can speak with a super nice human being (no robots here!) – there is also an amazing Facebook Group of over 11,000 Showit users that love to answer questions and offer guidance to Showiteers.
This is a snippet of a live chat conversation with a Showit team member that I wanted to share, as it’s a great representation of how their team makes you feel when you ask a question! No matter how stupid your question may be, they are always the nicest team (even if you’re on the lowest plan, or not subscribed yet).
If you’re unsure how to move from Wix to Showit, the Showit team will make this transfer process seamless for you. Simply head over to their live chat, let them know you’re ready to switch & they’ll handle it for you!
There’s no perfect website platform, and they all have their pros and cons. It all comes down to what you’re looking for in a website platform, and what are your deal-breakers.
