How to Write Your Website Meta Titles & Descriptions

Meta titles and descriptions are pieces of HTML code found on every page of your website. Inputting them manually is sometimes overlooked by website owners. They are super important to optimize because this is what shows up on search engines for all users to see. If you aren’t writing them manually uniquely for each page, search engines are instead showcasing pieces of text from that page – no matter if it’s good or not.

Writing Good Meta Titles
Your meta titles will help visitors make the decision to click on your website through search engines, instead of skimming past it. Not only does it showcase what the page is about, but can contain good & enticing keywords for SEO growth. Here are some main factors to consider:
Keep it short & sweet with 60 characters or less
Place your main keywords (industry, location, service, etc)
Make them unique for every page
Convey what the page is about
Meta Title Example
Let’s say your business is Sweet Dreams Photography, and your homepage meta title is just “Sweet Dreams Photography”. This is not going to get you noticed in your area, or for what you do! This is especially the case when your business name doesn’t have many valuable keywords. People are not going to be searching up “Sweet Dreams Photography”. You want to input long-tail keywords with it, which means longer & more specific keywords.

Writing Good Meta Descriptions
If your meta title has grabbed their attention, you may need to convince them that your page is what they’re looking for. The meta description should contain enticing keywords, and be in full sentences.
Keep it 150 characters or less.
Make them unique to every page. Every page has a different content, and duplicating can poorly affect your SEO.
Input full sentences, and NEVER keyword stuff. If you’re stuffing a bunch of keywords too many times in the description, you risk a Google penalty from this. Instead, write enticing full sentences with some keywords sprinkled throughout.
