You might be wondering if your website needs one of those cookie banner pop-ups you see often on websites, and how you can easily add one yourself.
Do I Need One for my Website?
Cookie consent banners can be important and often overlooked, the same with privacy policies. In my opinion, yes you usually do. With so many privacy laws (especially GDPR), it’s best to save yourself the stress of breaking any federal laws – and to place the banner on your website & be on the good side of the European laws.
For example, if someone were to visit your website from the EU where the law applies, then the law (and penalties for not complying) would apply to you. It doesn’t matter if you’re located in that country or not. It’s required by many privacy laws across the world and helps your visitors understand what cookies you use & how you use them. Even if it’s not required in your country, it’s still good to have in order to remain transparent with your visitors as more privacy regulations are enacted. You need to disclose how you’re collecting the data, how long you keep the data for & whom you share the data with. If you collect ANY data (contact form, newsletter opt-in, payment processor analytics, etc) then you should really considering adding a cookie banner on your website.
There are so many cookie banner generators out there, but my preferred one that I use is Enzuzo. They offer a free GDPR-compliant cookie banner that is extremely easy to customize & add to your website.
You can customize the colors, banner layout, and any display options. But the main reason I chose them for my website, is that I can minimize the number of website pop-ups for my general audience! You can set your cookie banner to only show to visitors located in the European Union. They also offer a cookie manager option, which will allow your visitors to allow or decline consent. They’re organized by categories (marketing, analytics, etc) and makes it easy for your visitors to understand what data you’re collecting.
If you decide to use a different generator, make sure it provides these GDPR-Compliant options:
Allows your visitors to accept cookies by clicking a button.
Shows any data sharing with third-parties
Allows you to provide all information regarding your cookie use
Adding It To Your Website
Once you’ve finished customizing your cookie banner on Enzuzo, you’ll go to “Add to Website”. Copy the embed code they provide, and paste it into the HTML of your website. If you’re using Showit, head over to your Page Advanced Settings & input the code in the “Custom Head HTML” section. Publish the website & make sure to test it on your live website.
There you have it! That’s how you can add a cookie banner easily on your website. Looking for a website redesign as well? Browse the website design packages right here to get started, or my affordable & easy-to-use Showit website template.
